Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

1. Overview

War & Peace Map (warandpeacemap.org) is a free, publicly accessible interactive world conflict map. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal data necessary to operate the service:

  • Usage data: Anonymous page view counts and interaction events collected via our analytics provider. No personally identifiable information is stored.
  • Authentication data: If you choose to log in via Manus OAuth, we store your Manus OpenID, display name, and email address solely to identify your session. This is optional — the map is fully accessible without logging in.
  • Log data: Standard server access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

3. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to maintain login state if you choose to authenticate. We also use Google Maps, which may set its own cookies subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

4. Third-Party Services

This site uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Maps JavaScript API — for map rendering. Subject to Google's Terms of Service.
  • GDELT Project — for live conflict event data. No personal data is shared with GDELT.
  • UCDP (Uppsala Conflict Data Program) — for baseline conflict data. No personal data is shared.
  • Google AdSense — we may display advertisements. Google may use cookies to serve relevant ads. See Google's advertising policy.

5. Data Retention

Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 12 months. Authenticated user records are retained until you request deletion. Server logs are purged after 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.

7. Contact

For privacy enquiries, please contact us via the War & Peace Map website. We aim to respond within 30 days.
